I am 1 in 300,000,000, a Chiari and clival Chordoma patient with a healthcare story that transcends the borders. In 2023, 1.8 percent of patients sought treatment abroad, highlighting the growing trend of Canadians turning to international options when timely or specialized care is unavailable at home. I am one of those patients who was failed by the Canadian Healthcare system and had to go abroad. My objectives are to: discuss healthcare issues within the scope of my experience, to show there are tannable options abroad when none are available at home, there are global experts when none are available in Canada, and to inspire the audience to fight on and to elucidate that no matter how far we fall, we can raise again to become an even better version of ourselves.

I would also like to highlight how we could become more responsible as consumers of healthcare services. There is an imbalance of power between the doctor and patient which sometimes means that trust is implied but, as my story shows, the patient must be careful in every single decision effecting their health and wellbeing. My dedication to these objectives stems from a profound conviction in their significance, viewing my story as a conduit for disseminating these vital messages to a wider audience.

I firmly believe that this book will be very valuable in the cancer community and it is also inspiring in its nature by outlining her story of perseverance in the face of adversity.
